3. What is the Purpose of the Introduction?
The purpose of the introduction in a social studies research paper is designed to accomplish 2 things:
Objectively state the goal of the project without using the words “I, me, or my.”
To state the essential question without saying, “my essential question is.”

Open and read the Model research paper attachment (Introduction section).
Download the one that is tailored to your topic as either:
People
Events
Decisions
Model Work

5. How to Compose an Introduction
Step # 1: Create a catchy and attention grabbing sentence about your topic. See sentence starters in packet- (Big overview packet sentence starters)
Step # 2: Restate your essential question.
Step # 3: List and include brief examples of your people, events or decisions.
Your introduction should be 5-sentences in length.
You do not need to write introduction in bold as the title (No title required).
DO NOT Cite your sources in the introduction.

6. What is the Purpose of the Conclusion?
The purpose of the conclusion is to:
Bring closure to your topic.
Closure can be accomplished by summing up your essential question.
Use your understanding and analysis of past people, events or decisions to predict the future of the events between Russia and America.
Evaluate your 3 topics as successes, failure or both.

7. How to Compose a Conclusion
Refer to the sentence starters in the big packet.
Step 1: Begin with a concluding phrase
Step 2: Sum up your answer and analysis of the essential question.
Step 3: Predict the future of relations between Russia and America.
Step 4: Develop a concluding statement that sums up what you discussed throughout the paper.
Your introduction should be 5 sentences.

8. You will not submit your introduction and conclusion to engrade.
You will include the two paragraphs in your final copy with your title and 3 body paragraphs.
