Unrest Deepens Bloody Sunday --> 1905 Revolution
No constitution; Duma had no real power. Nicholas relied on secret police (the Okrana) to enforce his rule; failed to solve problems. Proletariat revolutionaries plan uprisings and strikes.

Impact of World War I How do most countries feel at the beginning of a war??? Outbreak of World War I --> outburst of national pride and unity. WWI drained Russia’s resources. Russian soldiers were dying in mass numbers; many had no shoes or rifles!

WWI Nicholas took charge by personally commanding his troops.
Russia’s greatest enemy was Germany. He left Russia in charge of his German wife and Rasputin!
