Presentation on theme: "Two main areas identified"— Presentation transcript:

1 Two main areas identified
Outcome identification of research and development gaps (1) Two main areas identified R&D concerning CIS of existing WFD R&D with visions for future WFD needs Table with needs and gaps prepared > 5 areas of research 9 issues of high relevance Issues and their relevance Based on perceptive needs Based on ad hoc opinion of the RT members RT has not discussed the inventory of existing knowledge

2 Main issues of R&D need and gaps
Outcome identification of research and development gaps (2) Therefore, a post processing is needed to come to a balanced and sound output of RT Proposal to allow a round of comments to the table prepared (e.g. one week) Who can fill in the column on existing knowledge? Main issues of R&D need and gaps Priority substances in surface and marine waters Improvement of monitoring programmes and methods Identification of new PS and relevant toxic compounds Risk assessment Understanding of Effects Influence of climate change to water quality/contam.

3 A first glance on issues with high priority
Outcome identification of research and development gaps (3) A first glance on issues with high priority Improvement/development of analytical methods for new PS Improvement/development of sampling procedures Including new approaches (e.g. passive sampling) Methods for establishing background conc. of metals Sources, fate and behavior of contaminants Development of bio-indicators and bio-assays based on mode of action to investigate mixtures Validation of existing tools (bio-assays) Relationship and interactions between concentrations of priority substances in the three matrixes: water, sediment and biota Screening methods and non target analysis

4 Situation and weaknesses
Outcome improvement of R&D results dissemination (1) Situation and weaknesses Lack of transparency Dissemination does not work very well at all Effective structures of dissemination of R&D results to the MS and to the end-users are missing Identification of relevant data bases/platforms is difficult for MS and authorities Dissemination of information is commonly not in the focus of researchers Main weakness: only passive dissemination happens but active dissemination is needed

5 Proposals/recommendations for improvements
Outcome improvement of R&D results dissemination (2) Proposals/recommendations for improvements Build up effective dissemination channels to end-users and policy makers Active dissemination is the key (including all involved parties) Understanding of researchers and policy makers has to be enhanced (common language) Establishment of contact points between WGs Promotion/Enhancement/Maintaining of WISE-RTD platform Output/deliveries of R&D projects have to be transferred to WISE-RTD data base. Information must be presented in an appropriate way to foster this input.

6 Proposals/recommendations for improvements
Outcome improvement of R&D results dissemination (2A) Proposals/recommendations for improvements Strong link to the dissemination and implementation strategy must be considered/integrated to the design phase of R&D projects It should be mandatory that data on EP produced in EC funded projects are transferred to suitable data bases at the end of the project (or continuously) Research correspondents of CIS groups as members of SPI group
