District 410 A Zone Chairpersons Presentation Importance of fellowship A spirit of familiarity and trust existing between friends: Thesaurus.com lists the synonyms of the word camaraderie as cheer, companionability, companionship, comradeship, conviviality, esprit de corps, fellowship, gregariousness, intimacy, jollity, sociability and togetherness. The antonyms are listed as bad blood, dislike and hate.

Importance of fellowship The basics of teamwork and ‘espirit de corps’ from any experience will stay for a lifetime: Each person is an individual and has their own priorities, however as group members they have agreed to work together toward common goals. The team members should perceive the group tasks as relevant to the goals. The team members have mutual respect for group members who share their commitment to the goals. The group benefits from the diversity of member’s skills and experience. Each individual member has his/her communication style, and way of interacting with a group.

They both refer to the spirit of goodwill and fellowship that exists between friends. They are used to characterize the easy familiarity between those who know each other well.

District 410 A Zone Chairpersons Presentation Importance of fellowship Constructive Roles Supportive Roles The roles people play in groups are dynamic, they will change depending on the topic of discussion and a person may play several roles in a group. Constructive roles move the group toward action and accomplishing results. Supportive roles help the group work together well or make the group feel good about the process. Groups that become successful generally have people playing primarily constructive and supportive roles.

Importance of fellowship Evaluator Harmonizer Compromiser or mediator Encourager Supporter Gatekeeper Fond of the company of others; gregarious Evaluator – Compares the accomplishments of the group to standards, or a set of standards. Questions the practicality, the logic or the facts. Harmonizer – Mediates differences among members. Tries to resolve disagreements and relieve tensions in conflict situations. Compromiser or mediator – Proposes possible solutions or approaches that will meet most needs. Encourager – encourages others to continue to be involved. Supporter – Has praise for every achievement and everyone’s contribution. Gatekeeper – keeps communication channels open by facilitating the participation of quiet members or by proposing group rules for communication.

Aggression Blocking Aggression is shown by criticizing or blaming others, and by being hostile toward the group or an individual. Blocking is interference with progress of the group, for example sharing personal experience that is unrelated to the group tasks or arguing excessively.
