observations are essential to science!
7
What is an observation? It is a statement made about your surrounding environment using one or more of your senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste touch). Ex: This classroom has a TV and VCR.
8
Observations in science must be :
Accurate- free from errors or mistakes Objective- not influenced by emotion or prejudice
9
In order to remain objective, observations must NOT be biased
A bias is a certain point of view which can interfere with being fair.
10
There are two kinds of observations used in science…
Qualitative: relating to a character or property you look at (not a number) that sets something apart. My table is rectangular with a black top. Quantitative: relating to measurement or number. My table is 136 cm long, 60 cm wide & 75 cm tall.
11
What is an inference? Inferences are explanations for what was observed. Observation: Katy is driving her dad’s car. Inference: Katy must have gotten her drivers license. Be careful with inferences, they may NOT always be correct even when based on accurate observations!!
12
Now, test your ability to make accurate & objective observations!

You should see a man's face and also a word
You should see a man's face and also a word... Hint: Try tilting your head to the right, the world begins with 'L'
27
Are the purple lines straight or bent?
28
Which circle in the middle is bigger?

Do you see gray areas in between the squares
Do you see gray areas in between the squares? Now where did they come from?
34
If you continue to focus on the sign in the centre of the image you will notice that the circle of violet circles will soon disappear completely, and you will see only the green spot (which is actually violet)

If you take a look at the following picture , let me tell you
If you take a look at the following picture , let me tell you ... it is not animated. Your eyes are making it move. To test this, stare at one spot for a couple seconds and everything will stop moving. Or look at the black center of each circle and it will stop moving. But move your eyes to the next black center and the previous will move after you take your eyes away from it.... Weird
