#1: Newton’s 3 Laws & NHL Hockey (1/22/19)
Write 1-2 details for each law as you watch the video. Be prepared to share what you wrote down. 1st Law 2nd Law 3rd Law Copy this chart into your spiral. Make it BIG! (at least ½ page) 1st – The motion of a player (speed and direction) will only change if a force (body check) is applied. The hockey puck would move forever in a straight line (on a frictionless surface) until a force stopped it. 2nd – A big player’s hit will cause a small player to accelerate. Using F = ma you can calculate the final velocity of 2 players after a collision. 3rd – Any force one player puts on another gets put back on them. This means that the big guy gets just as much force applied to him as he applies to the small guy (but the small guy accelerates more due to his smaller mass).
