Effective January 2002, school districts must assure that School Site Councils develop and approve the Single Plan for Student Achievement. 2/21/2019

School goals must be based upon an analysis of verifiable state data, including the Academic Performance Index (API), and the English Language Development Test. 2/21/2019

At the Elementary Level Must have parity between staff Principal, teachers and other school personnel Teachers must be the majority on the staff side And the parents/members of the community 2/21/2019

At the Secondary Level At the discretion of the Board, the middle school may, but is not required to, include student representation on the Council 2/21/2019

17 Organization of the School Site Council
Members of the SSC are to be selected by peers The Council should adopt bylaws to guide its actions The Council should have officers with stated responsibilities and authority 2/21/2019

18 Organization of the School Site Council
The Council may appoint committees or individuals to perform tasks that assist the SSC in developing, monitoring or evaluating the plan The Principal has no authority over the SSC and may not veto decisions made by the Council, or make changes to the approved plan 2/21/2019

19 Some Rules of Order Meetings must be open to the public
The public may address the Council on any item within jurisdiction of the Council Notice of the meeting and an agenda must be posted at the school site at least 72 hours before the meeting. 2/21/2019

20 Recommendations It is recommended that the School Site Council adopts bylaws to guide its activities. Elections Dates and frequency of meetings Number of members to establish quorum 2/21/2019

21 Records The School Site Council must keep records of the following:
Elections Official correspondence Agendas, attendance rosters, minutes Evidence of input from school advisory committees Copies of prior year’s school plans 2/21/2019

Select Council members and officers Train council members Obtain advisory committees input and community involvement Analyze student data and educational practice 2/21/2019

23 Functions of the School Site Council
Develop the plan and related expenditures Submit the plan to the Board Monitor implementation of the plan Evaluate the results Amend the plan and expenditures as needed 2/21/2019
