Judging Each school is expected to supply judges to all competing events We LOVE!!! parent involvement in judging Might be an uptick from last year If we don’t have enough judges, we have to drop competitors Entries whose parents have judged more will be given preferential treatment Extenuating circumstances do apply if you can’t judge or drive, so feel free to get in touch with us soon so that we can work something out (e.g. snacks) Bobby

Judging FAQs 1. Can I judge members of Eastlake’s S&D team? Unfortunately, no! As a safeguard against bias, the NSDA doesn’t allow that. 2. For Speech: There are both speaker points and rankings in round. Are those the same? Nope. Speaker points are 1-20 (20 being the best), whereas rankings in round are 1-6 (1 being the best). People can get the same amount of speaker points but a different ranking. 3. My kid keeps talking about policy. Can I judge that? Policy requires special judging certification, so no. 3. I’m worried I’ll mess it up! How do I avoid doing that? Just write thoughtful, kind comments. Make sure your criticism is constructive and give praise too. We as speakers and debaters appreciate your time and use your feedback to grow! Jenna
