3 CHUNKS Scientists use DNA research to trace the origins of humans to Africa They call this first human “African Eve” She is a hunter-gatherer

4 The Old Stone Age: Stone Tools and Fire

5 CHUNKS People lived in nomadic tribes.
They were hunter-gatherers. One of their main food sources – mammoth. They invented stone tools and discovered how to make fire.

6 The First Art – Cave Paintings

7 CHUNKS Cave paintings give us a picture of what life was like for hunter-gatherers. Historians are not sure why early humans painted. Art? History?

8 Agricultural Revolution
The New Stone Age: Agricultural Revolution

9 CHUNKS Humans discovered farming – planting seeds.
Animals were domesticated and used for food and farming. Humans began to live in one place. They didn’t have to follow migrating herds of animals.

10 Metal Tools and Weapons
The Bronze Age: Metal Tools and Weapons

11 CHUNKS Bronze is made from copper and tin.
These were the first metal tools and they were expensive. Whoever used these tools and weapons had a great advantage.

12 Villages and Cities Spring Up

13 CHUNKS People began to gather in villages for protection and to exchange goods and services. Specialization of jobs began: Woodworkers, blacksmiths, tool makers. We see the first evidence of religious buildings – shrines – in villages.
