2. Rules for Scientific Notation
All numbers must end up between 1 and 10 (there may be decimals)
Move the decimal so that the number is between 1 and 10 (keep track of how many times the decimal place moves)
If decimal is moved to the left then the exponent will be positive
If decimal is moved to the right then the exponent is will be negative
Write the new number down with this on the end “x 10” then add the proper exponent

3. Proper Exponent
The proper exponent consists of the correct sign with the number of times the decimal place had to move
