Be Responsible: Raise your hand and complete all work.
In Ms. Edwards’ class learning is our priority. We have five classroom rules in order to stay on task and keep learning. This is the back of flap 3 in your flip book. Rule 1 Be Responsible: Raise your hand and complete all work. 2 Be Safe: Keep hands to yourself. Walk, don’t run. Use materials wisely. 3 Be Caring: Use kind words and take turns. 4 Be Respectful: Use good manners and always be honest. 5 Always try your best! 7:15-7:35: Breakfast 7:35-8:00: Math Notebook 8:00-8:45: 1st Reading/2nd Spelling 8:45-9:30: 2nd Reading/1st Spelling 9:30-10:30: Centers/Small Groups 10:35-11:00: Lunch 11:00-11:05: Bathroom 11:05-12:30: 1st/2nd Math Small Groups 12:30-1:00 P.E. 1:00-1:20: Snack 1:20-2:30: Science/Social Studies 2:30-2:40: Pack Up This is flap 2 in your flip book. We will be taking multiple bathroom breaks throughout the day. If your child has a medical condition that requires for him/her to use the bathroom more frequently, please let me know so we can make the proper accommodations. We have a child who is allergic to tree nuts. Please make sure that your child does not bring anything that contains this.

All children need a backpack to transport their belongings to and from school. Please make sure to check your child’s backpack daily. Each day your child will bring home a plastic folder that has each pocket labeled return or keep. This folder will include their homework sheet, a monthly calendar, spelling and vocabulary words for the week, any homework assignments, daily and weekly behavior charts, your child’s completed and graded papers (sent home on Mondays), school letters, and other important information. This folder should be looked through each night and returned the following day. It is important that you look through the return and keep section of your child’s folder because it contains valuable information and it is our way of communicating with one another. I have purchased a few school supplies for your child so that he/she will be ready to use these the first day of school. Please check below for a list of school supplies that you will need to purchase for your child. Tax free weekend is August 5-7, 2016. This is the back of flap 2 of your flip book. We will begin class at 7:35am and our day ends at 2:40pm. If your child needs to be picked up early by someone or needs to ride a different bus, please send a note to school or give me a call prior to noon to make sure we send your child home the correct way. For your child’s safety, we cannot change a child’s mode of transportation without written notification or direct phone call from a legal guardian. This is the back of flap 1 in your flip book. Ms. Edwards uses a clothespin system to track behavior P Please read below to see what each level means. This is flap 4 of your flip book. Rewards and Incentives In my classroom, I use a clothespin system to keep track of your child’s behavior. If a student breaks a rule, then he or she will move their clothespin. If your child does not move a clothespin during the day, then he or she will receive a coin and may trade their coins in on Friday to purchase something from the class store. They may also receive extra coins for positive actions throughout the day. This will help the students understand the value of money and reward them for their good behavior. The more coins they save the better the prize they can purchase on Fridays. They will also receive free time during “Fun Friday” to play computers or iPads. This is the last 30 minutes on Friday. If they move their clothespin to red anytime throughout the week, they do not receive free time. If they move their clothespin to yellow, they must sit out 5 minutes for each time it was moved. I usually try to send a short note home explaining why your child received a yellow or red face. These can be found in the take home folder and sometimes they will need to be signed and returned. Green Smiley- Way to Go!!!! Your child was great!!! Sometimes this is hard to achieve everyday. Yellow Straight Face/First Warning: Verbal Warning (I usually give them several warnings before they move their clothespin.) Try to remember that kids make mistakes and that is what this warning is for. Red Sad Face/ Multiple Warnings: silent lunch/ no free time during “Fun Friday” and a note or phone call to the parents. A visit to the principal if necessary.

It is important that we all work together as a team in order to help your child succeed. If you ever have any questions, please give me a call at You can leave a message and I will return your phone call as soon as possible. We can also make an appointment to meet before or after school. If you prefer electronic correspondence, I can be reached at: This is the back of the front cover. This is going to be flap 5 in your flip book. Homework: Students will be given homework Monday through Thursday, mainly in Math, Spelling, and Reading, but occasionally they may also have some homework in other subject areas. The homework will be a review of the lessons that the your child has been taught throughout that day, so nothing is “new” and they should be able to complete the assignment. If you have problems with an assignment, please send me a note and I will go over the homework and lesson again with your child. All homework will be placed in the return side of your child’s plastic folder and should be completed and returned the following day. Parents, please make sure your child completes the homework assignments. If a homework assignment is not completed, the child must complete it during their free time. Homework is very important in reinforcing the day’s lessons. Students will receive a homework chart every Monday with what is due the entire week.
