Tinea Corporis (Ringworm)

Description Ringworm is a contagious fungal infection that is very common. It is a rash on the skin that burns or itches. It's usually circular with red on the outside with a clearer middle. It is closely related to infections like athletes foot.

Scientific description
It is only in the epidermis, it rarely goes dermis. It mainly affects the keratin layers.

Symptoms It usually forms a red ring of bumps, it can affect the area around causing a rash. The skin can be scaly, dark, and itchy. If it appears on the scalp it can cause hair loss.

Cause of Ringworm It is caused by dermatophytes that can spread through contact. It can be transferred: Human to human Animal to human Object to human Soil to human

Cure to Ringworm There are a few ways to cure ringworm, one is to apply a topical antifungal, another is to let it breathe, wash your bedding daily, change wet underwear or socks, use antifungal shampoo, and take a prescription antifungal medication

Worst Case Scenario Ringworm usually disappears within a few months. It is not deadly but it can be dangerous. If left untreated for a long period, the skin can crack and cause worse bacterial infections. If it's in the eye it can cause, pain, blurriness, sensitivity to light, and eye discharge.

3 Facts Antibiotics will not heal ringworm, they kill bacterias. Antifungals medicines will heal ringworm. It will not appear immediately, it may take a few weeks to appear. There are over 3 million cases per year in the United States.
