Encourage children to write-sentences!! Handwriting homework- apply joins to all recording

Routines- Homework Spellings- age appropriate and differentiated (SEN children have additional sessions). Regular practice is essential. In diary Fridays- test on Thursdays. Mental Maths- quick fire at least once a day at home (ten minutes is enough). Rapid recall of known facts is essential in every day life and to solve other more complex written calculations and real life problems. USING AND APPLYING (4 operations) IS A KEY AREA OF THE MATHEMATICS CURRICULUM. Reading- Encourage your child to read every night. Set targets together and please check your child’s reviews. Please check the homework diary daily- sign to acknowledge that you have seen and checked written homework-STANDARDS!!

Routines- independence
Homework diaries, reading books, reading diaries, test books, PE kits should be in school every day. Homework- It is the children’s responsibility to copy down the activities accurately and ensure that homework is handed in on time. Please support them!

Mental Maths Is essential. Rapid recall of facts.
Application to real life problems. For example…………

Mental Maths this week.. Use knowledge of place value and multiplication facts to 10x10 to derive related multiplication and division facts involving decimals. For example 0.8 x 7 or 4.8 divided by is the answer. What is the question?

Spellings Initially, spellings from the Y5/6 word list.
Differentiation as and when appropriate. Handwriting sessions to practise spellings. List in diary once a week from NC English

Written Calculations Good mental maths knowledge is essential.
The children will always be given time to learn, consolidate and use these methods. They will always be expected to use and apply these methods when solving real life problems.

Maths- Written Calculations Addition
Mainly using the compact method (with carrying) Th, H, T, U + Th H T U = Numbers with any amount of digits Addition of two or more decimals of up to four digits with up to two decimal places.

Maths- Written Calculations Subtraction
TH, H, T, U – Th, H, T, U Then with any number of digits. Subtract two or more decimals of up to three digits with either one or two decimal places. Decomposition with borrowing.

Maths- Written Calculations Multiplication
Grid method (partition and recombine) Th, H, T, U x U H, T, U x T U

Maths- Written Calculations Division
Chunking method H, T, U divided by T and U (long division) Whole numbers dealing with remainders.
