1 Cell Organelles Do Now: Complete the do now.
Materials Manager pass out notebooks silently. Do Now (5 min) Notes (4 min) Video ( 7 min) Foldable (20 min) Collect notebooks Exit Slip Quiz (5 min)

2 & Cell Organelles Cells – the basic unit of life
Organelles - small structures inside a cell with specific functions. Analogy – Innovate Manhattan

3 Cell Membrane/Plasma Membrane
Function: Separates the inside of the cell from the outside environment. Lets some materials pass in and out. Structure: Analogy – The front office and the main door

4 Cytoplasm Analogy – All air, water, life that is in IMCS.
Function: All cell contents that lie between the cell membrane and the nucleus. Structure: Analogy – All air, water, life that is in IMCS.

5 Nucleus Nucleus Function: controls activities of the cell and contains the hereditary material (DNA) Structure: Analogy – The Principal, Ms. Simmi

6 Mitochondria Mitochondria Function: Produce energy for the cell – site of cellular respiration. “The Powerhouse” Structure: Double membrane-bound, kidney shaped. Analogy – Con Edison who gives us power.

7 Vacuoles Function: Storage for water, nutrients or waste.
Vesicles Function: Storage for water, nutrients or waste. Structure: small membrane-bound organelle. Analogy – Lockers and cabinets

8 H) Ribosomes Function: Makes proteins. Structure:
Free Ribosomes Function: Makes proteins. Structure: Analogy – Operations (the people who build the school)

9 Chloroplasts (Plants only)
Function: site of photosynthesis (converting sun and CO2 into sugar). Structure: Membrane bound organelles that contain chlorophyll Analogy – Solar Panels (if we had them)

10 Cell Wall (Plant cells only)
Function: Provides support for the cell and the plant. Structure: Made of cellulose Analogy- The building

11 Cell Parts Analogy Create an analogy (besides the city analogy) for the cell and its parts Possible ideas: Stadium School Country Restaurant House Mall Waterpark

12 Stadium Example: Cell membrane: wall of stadium, gates
Cytoplasm: everything inside the stadium. Nucleus: the control room for the stadium. Etc…
