Argumentative Paragraph
Establishing credibility through the written word

Intro sentence(s) Prompt: What is the moral side of murder
The moral side of murder is killing one person is better than killing five people because one is less than five. Too direct , and does not allow the reader to feel you have emotionally developed your answer. When we are thrown into a scenario which is ultimately out of our control, we have to act quickly. With the speed of a synapse, we are either a hero or society’s villainous scapegoat.

Bridge – Credibility Specific Examples -----Explanation behind your reasoning- We like to think that our moral code is shared with those closest to us. We would sleep better at night knowing our co-workers and friends, our family, and our classmates all share the same principals of what is right and wrong in this world. Harvard University presented us with a scenario in which we were forced to share our ethical code. A runaway trolley car in which we are responsible for will crash into one or five individuals. Choosing for the trolley car to kill five employees feels like a choice I cannot live with.. With the split second decision, it is at first a numbers game. One is of course less than five, but it is more than that. Something had to be done, and I feel that most would be able to understand and comprehend my decision. This would be considered a societal “norm”, and would require the least explanation.

Conclusion We are told that we have the ability to express ourselves, but they forgot something. When we express ourselves, we leave an opening for judgement. If we cannot handle that judgement, the expression is one of regret. When faced with difficult decisions, allow your ethics to guide you. Society will want to know why you did what you did, and being able to live with your decisions, is what no one else will need to do.
