No (radical) magic bullet: a combination of actions will be required. The key will be focus on actions with biggest impact, and their delivery The biggest risk areas are the deteriorating supply of mental health and learning disability nursing staff: incentives to attract students to train in these areas should be put in place The regional and national structure plans and MOUs need to include descriptions of workforce functions and responsibilities with plans to be devolved to ICS leadership Greater Status needs to be afforded to Community Roles : with additional incentives, lecturer status and identification as ‘high-potential’ clinical leaders all put in place Oversupply should be an objective for 2029 Pension flexibility is a key action for retention : this includes greater support for tax liabilities (‘scheme-pays’) and ability to cap contributions for a period Need to respond to desire of clinical graduates to practice abroad (and vice versa) and provide structured exchange programmes for professionals Particular support for the highlighted strategy responses from spring (attached)
