2 What is Pop Art? Pop Art was a movement that began in the 1950s but became popular in the 1960s It originated in London and quickly spread throughout the United States Characteristics are the use of bright colors Using celebrities and fictional characters Using recognizable characters and logos

4 Who: Andy Warhol Title: Campbell’s soup cans Medium : paint on canvas When:1962 Why it was created: He wanted to create something recognizable and that everyone was using at the time It relates to pop art because it using the logo of something that was commonly used during that time period.

5 Who: Andy Warhol Title: Gold Marilyn Monroe When: 1962 Medium: Silkscreen print Andy created it because he was infatuated with her life after her sudden death. It relates to pop art because he is using a recognizable figure, and also used bright colors

6 Who: Andy Warhol Title: Liz When: 1965 Medium: Screenprint on paper Andy used vibrant colors,flat blocks of color, and contrasting colors to create emphasis. He created two dimensional paintings to emphasize the fact that the notions of beauty were becoming superficial.

9 Who: Roy Lichtenstein Title: Crying GIrl When: 1963 Medium: Color Offset Lithograph on White Wove Paper How it relates to pop art: Lichtenstein incorporated the use of the Benday dot throughout his artwork to create shading and secondary colors
