3 Chapter 12 Think about how the Black community have been presented to you so far. Write down 5 adjectives which reflect your interpretation of their attitudes/lifestyle Be prepared to validate your ideas What is the significance of the church visit? What knowledge does Scout gain about the Black community?

4 Read extract on p139 which begins “Cal”, I asked, “Why do you… and ends “keep your mouth shut or talk their language” How does Harper Lee show in this extract that racial prejudice is ingrained in Maycomb society? Apply your contextual knowledge. Use quotes and PEE. Extension/contextual ideas. Microcosm of American society? Are the divisions too wide to mend in Maycomb?

Harper Lee’s use of the word…….. Has a profound effect upon the reader because it reflects…………. The use of………..implies that Lee deliberately attempts to manipulate the response of the reader because she wants us to feel……………. The use of imagery provides a sensory experience or the reader, and leads them through Maycomb.
