Divided power 3 branches Each has its own powers (separation of powers) To limit the amount of power each branch has Checks and balances Watch over the other branches Prevent abuses/corruption Limit the power of the other branches

3 Analysis What are some problems with the checks and balances system?
The Constitution is vague in some parts of these powers. How can this cause a problem for each branch? How does this system promote cooperation between the branches of government? Which branch has the most power? Why?

The "Unwritten Constitution" refers to the ideas and processes that are accepted as a needed part of American government, regardless of the fact that they are not actually in the Constitution. These ideas and processes came about through the custom and precedent. Cabinet Judicial Review (what 2 cases?) Political Parties Congressional Committee

10 Enlightenment Purpose of Government
Natural rights of man Locke/Jefferson etc. Government purpose is to protect the rights of citizens Citizens have the right to alter government if it is not meeting needs…. Ways??? Voting 1st amendment freedoms!!! Revolution???? Prevent absolutism/ Spread Republicanism
