Today you are going to hear a story about Anansi the Spider. This is an Ashanti tell or story. Anansi is a folk-hero to the Ashanti. This funny fellow is a rogue and loveable trickster. He is a shrewd and cunning figure who triumphs over larger foes. A spider with human qualities, Anansi is a mischief maker. He tumbles into many troubles. What shapes make up Anansi? Triangles, and circles Great! Well let’s see were the Ashanti people live.

2 So what are we looking at here?
Can someone show me what country we live in on the map? Does anyone know where Africa can be found? Well the country we are going to look at is in West Africa. We are looking at the country of the ASHANTI people.

3 The Ashanti people live in this dark pink area
The Ashanti people live in this dark pink area. In the Country called Ghana. They only live in a portion of the country. The Story on Anansi is from a long-established culture, the Ashanti of West Africa, in the country of Ghana. Ghana is a green stronghold of dense rain forests between the ocean and the desert. This home of the Ashanti people protects their oral traditions. Do you know what oral traditions are? Still, today as long ago, the Ashanti are superb artisans. They excel as makers of fine metal work and as weavers of beautiful silk fabric. Into this fabric they weave the rich symbols of their art and folklore-Sun, Moon, Creation, Universe, the Web of the Cosmos, and Anansi, the Spider. Are you, class, familiar with Myths or stories from other cultures? If so, which ones?

4 Today we are going to listen to a “storyl/myt”h from the Ashanti people. We were lucky to find it read on line What is a talent? What were some of the talents of Anansi’s children? I want you to start thinking about what you are good at and what you would call yourself if you were one of Anansi’s children.
