Neuroptera: from the Greek neuron = a nerve, and ptera = wings.
* Small to medium sized insects, 2 to 120 mm long.
* They are the predators of other insects.

4. General Characteristics:
* Tarsi 5-segmented. Cerci absent. Head prognathous with mandibulate mouthparts.
* Complete metamorphosis.
* Forewings and hind wings similar in size and shape.
