Example Use the experiment and the data table to find the following information and then write a conclusion of the findings. A person wants to know if different pH levels will affect the growth of the plant. They come up with the following experiment. Ten pots of plants with different soil pH levels while other plants are grown in soil with no pH change. The chosen plant to grow is the snap bean. Each plant is given the same amount of sun, water, and grown in the same pot size. The plants are measured after three weeks of growth and the following data is obtained.

Find the Answers the Following:

Parts of a Conclusion Must be written in a paragraph form. The conclusion should include: 1. Explain what your data means. Discuss any trends seen. 2. Does the data support your hypothesis? Is your hypothesis correct or incorrect? 3. Did you collect enough data? Should there have been more subjects in the experiment? 4. Did anything happen during the experiments that may have affected the results? 5. If you could do this experiment over again what would you do differently next time? 6. What other experiments could you do to further test this?

Conclusion In this experiment, the pH levels of different soil levels were tested. It is believed that a neutral pH would be the level at which the plant grew the most. The data shows that as pH level increases so does the growth until a pH level of above 7.0 is reached, then the growth rate declines. At the pH level of 6.6 and 6.8 the amount of growth after three weeks was the exact same. This data does not support the hypothesis because these plants like to grow in a slightly acidic soil. If the number of plants tested were increased and the amount of time measuring growth was increased, then perhaps a different trend would be shown. Another experiment that could be done on the plants could be if the levels of nitrogen in the soil is increased then the amount of growth should also increase.
