3. Light and shadows in photographs
In a flat image of a photograph, light and shadows can have as much visual weight as any object in the composition. Additionally, there are many different qualities of light.

14. VALUE IN PHOTOGRAPHY All values, from deepest black to perfect white, and all the greys in between, should be present in your computer files and prints.

With very few exceptions, all of the following tones should be present in your photographs. The tones do not have to be evenly represented, but each one should appear somewhere in your image.
