2. Overview
All students have been assigned a colony, trade (job), and salary.
Throughout the week different taxes will be collected and different events will take place.
You must make the choice to either stay loyal to the king or rebel (how dare you!)
Consider the possible consequences of the choice presented to you.

3. Taxes Taxes will be collected for various reasons.
On the final day (Tuesday, October 13th) you must pay the final tax which amounts to half of your income.
Tax Collector:
Will be chosen randomly each day.
Will read the tax announcement(s).
Will be responsible for collecting taxes from required royal subjects.

4. Loyalist Spy
This great Englishmen is my eyes and ears throughout the distant lands of the colonies.
He or she will pick up a spy report (See directions sheet) and complete it each day. The spy will be looking to inform me of who my loyalist subjects are as well as any treasonous colonists.
The spy will drop the sheet off in one of the available envelopes around the school. It would be too obvious if he or she just handed it to me. A good spy must not get caught!
If the spy comes across a declaration of independence petition, they must immediately present it to me.
The spy wins if they successfully catch the petition.

5. Patriot Petition
A secret Patriot will be/has been selected by another teacher.
They will attempt to get the class (except the Loyalist spy) to secretly sign the petition.
It will be revealed on the final day. (Read the directions sheet.)
If the whole class signs and declares independence, everyone wins!
If the Loyalist spy catches the petition before the final day, all who signed will lose.
But you are traitors against the King!
(If you are selected as the spy and have questions, ask the teacher that informed you of your job. I don’t know who the spies are.)

6. Loyalist Teachers Royal Governors
Some teachers, administrators, and or staff will also be loyalist spies.
They will report to me.
They can also distribute rewards if you profess your loyalty to the king!
Royal Governors
Mrs. Izard (1st Period) and Mrs. Eschleman will be governors.
They are the highest ranking government official in the colonies. They have been appointed by the king.
Governors have the same responsibilities as the Loyalist Teachers.

7. Tax Amnesty Cards
Around the school there will be different Patriot teachers, administrators, and/or staff members.
If you figure out who they are and want to rebel, whisper the phrase listed on your direction sheet.
They will give you a “Tax Amnesty” card.
Collect all six.
On the final day, present all six of your tax amnesty cards instead of paying the final tax.
You win!
But you are a traitor to the king!

8. How To Win Have enough money at the end to pay the final tax.
Collect all six Tax Amnesty cards.
Everyone except Loyalist Spy successfully sign class petition.
Catch the petition (Loyalist Spy ONLY.)

9. How To Lose Go bankrupt. Fail to pay the full final tax.
Get caught signing the petition.
Break a game rule.
While being caught rebelling does not immediately cause you to lose the game, consequences will be implemented. This could make winning the game more difficult for you.
If you run out of money before the final day, you can still win through one of the other options.

10. Rules
ONLY play the game before school, after school, during lunch, during passing period, or in this classroom
Do NOT interfere with other classes you are taking.
Be honest. Do not take someone else’s money.
Have fun.
Learn something.
Play the game. Participate!

11. Extra
Count your money. Make sure it matches the amount on your job card.
Fill out the top part of your directions page.
Report jobs.
