1 SENSE Completion Process
The goal of this presentation is to better familiarize interested parties with the SENSE completion process. The following notes are provided to facilitate in the presentation of this PowerPoint. Please print these notes for use during presentation. ******************************************* Presentation created by Marines Maldonado, Academic Program Manager, AWS. Created: May Revised August 2008. Contact: , ext. 455. This presentation is part of the SENSE Workshop Series. Developed by the American Welding Society as part of the SENSE Workshop Series

2 Full or Partial Completion (Only applies to Level I - Entry Welder)
Modules that must be completed: Module 1 – Occupational Orientation Module 2 – Safety and Health of Welders Module 3 – Drawing and Welding Symbol Interpretation Module 8 – Thermal Cutting Processes (Units 1 and 3 minimum) Module 9 – Welding Inspection and Testing To be in compliance with the qualification document QC10, Level I Entry Welder trainees must complete Modules 1, 2, 3, 8 and 9 to be eligible for either full or partial completion of SENSE. (Please note the difference between a Participating Organization’s implementation of Level I as either modular or comprehensive and the trainee’s completion of the program as either full or partial. The Participating Organization may have a implemented SENSE comprehensively, but may still offer students partial SENSE Level I Entry Welder completion provided that the trainee completes the necessary modules and at least one welding process module.)

3 Successful Full Completion
Record of Successful Completion form Trainee’s name and address Actual grade on the written safety test – 100% Actual grade on the other modules’ written tests – 75% Workmanship Sample - Visual Inspection form (found in QC10) Face- and Root-Bend Tests Results form (found in QC10) $15 fee per student When the student successfully completes a SENSE level, the school must complete and submit to AWS: Record of Successful Completion (level) Welder Program form to AWS (can be found on Implementation CD) Module 2 - Safety and Health of Welders must have a passing score of 100% or higher. All remaining modules exams, must have a passing score if 75% or higher. The instructor or test supervisor must as also fill out the workmanship performance test results and face- and root-bend test portions of the completion form. The Performance Qualification and Face- and Root-Bend Tests Results (for SMAW test plates) forms must also be included in the completion package. Submit a $15 fee per student (check).

4 Successful Partial Completion
Record of Successful Completion form Trainee’s name and address Actual grade on the safety written closed book test – 100% Actual grade on written, closed book tests for modules completed – 75% Workmanship Sample - Visual Inspection form (found in QC10) If applicable, Face- and Root-Bend Tests Results form (found in QC10) $15 fee per student For Level I Entry Welder, when the student successfully completes the required basic modules plus at least one welding process module, the school may complete and submit to AWS: Record of Successful Completion (level) Welder Program form to AWS (can be found on Implementation CD) Modules exams scores for actual modules completed Module 2 - Safety and Health of Welders must have a passing score of 100% or higher. All remaining modules exams, must have a passing score if 75% or higher. The instructor or test supervisor must as also fill out the workmanship performance test results and face- and root-bend test portions of the completion form (if applicable). The Performance Qualification and Face- and Root-Bend Tests Results (for SMAW test plates, if applicable) forms must also be included in the completion package. Submit a $15 fee per student (check).

5 Completion Forms Record of Successful Completion
Performance Qualification Visual Inspection Results Face- and Root-Bend Test Results When a trainee completes SENSE Level I - Entry Welder, the training organization must fill out the three following forms and return them to AWS along with a check for $15 (per trainee). The three forms include: Record of Successful Completion Performance Qualification (Visual Inspection Results) Face- And Root-Bend Test Results (only for SMAW)

6 Mail completion forms to AWS. Include $15 fee per student.
All information must be filled out correctly. Fill in written test score as a percentage and the date when exam was completed. The $15 charge per student is for each time the form is submitted, not each time the test is taken. We encourage instructors to keep track of the students until they achieve their individual desired completion point, then submit the Record of Successful Completion form. Mark practical test result as Pass or Fail for welding process(es) completed. Sign and date by instructor.

7 Must be filled out and submitted to AWS for each welding process tested.
Sign and date by instructor or test supervisor.

8 Must be filled out and submitted to AWS for SMAW welding process.
Sign and date by instructor or test supervisor.

9 Certificate AWS mails SENSE Completion Certificate and Certification Card to the training organization. Certificate may be mailed to trainee at his/her request. When AWS processes the completion materials, the SENSE Certification will be sent to the school. The certificate can also be sent directly to the graduate at his or her request. Only the school (or instructor) may complete the Record of Successful Completion form and submit it to AWS.

10 Graduate’s name is added to the AWS SENSE Entry Welders database.
Record of Completion Graduate’s name is added to the AWS SENSE Entry Welders database. Upon processing of the graduate’s Record of Successful Completion form, the graduate’s name is entered into the SENSE Entry Welders’ database. AWS shall maintain records of program completion or competencies achieved. Individuals registered in the database of welders are not required to maintain registration by reporting their welding activities. If an individual who has achieved one or more competencies completes the program during the three year competency registration period, the PO will verify the completion by sending a completion report to AWS. Then the graduate will be registered as (Level) welder along with the competencies achieved. The name will be maintained in the database for three years from the date of program completion, then it is archived.
