1 Multiplying and Dividing Integers
COURSE 3 LESSON 1-5 A diver descended 80 ft in 4 min. What was the rate of this descent? Represent a descent of 80 feet with –80. Then divide the descent by the number of minutes to find the change in elevation per minute. The quotient of two integers with different signs is negative. = –20 –80 4 The diver descended an average of 20 feet per minute. 1-5

2 Multiplying and Dividing Integers
COURSE 3 LESSON 1-5 Evaluate y ÷ (x – y) – zy for x = 6, y = 9, and z = –2. y ÷ (x – y) – zy = 9(6 – 9) – (–2)(9) Substitute 6 for x, 9 for y, and –2 for z. Simplify 6 – 9 first. = 9 ÷ (–3) – (–2)(9) Multiply and divide. = –3 – (–18) Subtract. = 15 1-5
