We are very excited about this school year. This year will be a bit different then the past few years, because we will not be flexing for math and reading this year. We will flex for intervention time instead. Intervention time is a time to address your individual child’s needs, whether your child needs extra help or enrichment. Fourth grade teachers will work together as a professional learning community (PLC) to help meet your child’s needs. Parent Teacher Conferences: Please sign up for our first conference on Skyward. This first conference is YOUR chance to share! It is our favorite conference, because we get to learn about your child through your eyes. Come prepared to share! Please write down any questions or information that you would like to share with us. It is very important that each teacher stay on schedule, since the conferences are 15 minutes long and back to back. So, please try and be on time and we will also try and stick to the schedule and respect your time. Things To Remember Tuesday is an A Day, Wednesday is a B Day, Thursday is a C Day, and Friday is a D Day. Each class will be having their own class store at the end of the month. The students are given money each week. The students can also earn extra money and have money taken away. The last week of the month we have a class store where the students can use their money to purchase various items. Every month each class needs donated items such as snack bags (Cheetos, Doritos, etc…), candy bars, big suckers, juice boxes, small toys or items from the dollar store or Target, small packs of legos, etc… This store can not take place without your wonderful donations! Thanks for your help! The students love the class store day! Please check over your child’s homework each evening and help your child when needed. Initial or sign your child’s agenda. Then model how to pack up your child’s homework and other important items, so that your child comes back to school prepared. Modeling at this age really helps your child learn routines. Academics Spelling: Our spelling words have short vowel sounds. The test will be Thursday, August 23rd. Your child may practice his/her spelling at: (All 4th grade classes will use this link.) Language Arts: We are learning about sentences. Our focus is on writing complete sentences. We will also focus on identifying the four types of sentences: declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory and how to correctly punctuate each type of sentence. Math: Your child should be able to explain the difference between place and value. Your child should be able to write numbers in standard, base 10, expanded, and word form. Reading: We are learning “active” reading strategies to help our students become better readers. Social Studies: The students will be learning habits to help them be successful in school and life. The students will also be learning school routines and procedures.
