2 IDEA IEP RTI SBAC CWPT CCSS

3 IDEA Individuals with Disabilities Education Act: is a law ensuring services to children with disabilities throughout the nation. This is how states and public agencies provide early intervention, special education and related services to many children and toddlers.

4 IEP Individualized Educational Plan: a plan or program developed to ensure that a child who has a disability identified under the law and is attending an elementary or secondary educational institution receives specialized instruction and related services. For some more information on IEP got to This creates an opportunity for teachers, parents, school administrators, related services personnel, and students (when appropriate) to work together to improve educational results for children with disabilities.

5 RTI Response to Intervention: is a multi-tier approach to the early identification and support of students with learning and behavior needs.

6 SBAC Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium: a common set of test that will hopefully be passed soon. The test will help teachers and others know where a student is and where they should be.

7 CWPT Class Wide Peer Tutoring: a term that's been used to describe a wide array of tutoring arrangements, but most of the research on its success refers to students working in pairs to help one another learn material or practice an academic task.

9 CCSS Common Core State Standards: this is what the state thinks your child should be learning in his or her grade level. For more information about the state standard go to

11 Summary These were just a few of the many things that I felt were important to talk about. I talked about Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Individualized Educational Plan, Response to Intervention, Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium, class wide peer tutoring and Common Core State Standards. Like I said before this is just some of the many things that I felt were important to cover. There were even some great site to check out if you still had some questions.

12 Reflection I choose to talk about the topics I choose because I feel like they are some of the most important things for parents to know. Yes I might have missed some but the parents are always welcome to ask questions. But I believe that the ones I talked about are extremely important. I think this because they are all basic things that have to be known before you child is qualified for special needs help.
