Tik Tok - social media app for creating and sharing videos as well as live broadcasting. Used for grooming

Using social media leads to: Easy access to young people for adults Can hide the abuse Can take longer to formulate a message online Lowered inhibitions Losing control of content which can lead to exploitation or blackmail Control Exposure Social No way to unsend it if you change your mind You don’t know who will see it Might be difficult to face people afterwards Cannot stop people taking screenshots Could be shared unlimited times, globally or on porn sites Bullying re: sexting is common Time to think about it and make it more hurtful

144% increase of sexual offences against children in the last 5 years Most common age for the victim or the perpetrator is 14 Apps most used for grooming – Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Kik, Music.ly (Tik Tok) and Skype Abusers will move children from mainstream platforms to less known encrypted ones Many claim online abuse is not as detrimental as abuse that takes place in ‘real life’ – not much research into the effect online SA has compare to with the perpetrator present. Lots sadly say the impact is less. Children are abusing other children Girls can be persuaded to send nudes as they are used to sharing selfies

5 Sextortion Sextortion is on the increase and the time between the victim being contacted and committing suicide is going down 40% meet the perp online and will be asked for a nude within a week 1:3 did not tell anyone as they were too ashamed or embarrassed

For Me app Games for starting difficult conversations or taking your mind off things Zip it app YOTI - digital identity app Facebook Help Centre Facebook and MediaSmart – Think before you share Google – ‘Right to be Forgotten’. Listen to your selfie - For Me app - Zipp it app - YOTI - - the easiest, most secure way to prove your identity online and in person. Also used for age verification. Gov are trying to develop ways of verifying your age online but very difficult to do. YOTI is an example of this. Facebook Help Centre to report inappropriate posts. Think Before you share – Google – ‘Right to be Forgotten’. You have the right to ask for personal info to be removed. Can complete an online form to have content deprioritised but will never be removed from the server.

A digital footprint is a trail of data you create while using the Internet. It includes the websites you visit, s you send, and information you submit to online services.
