What is it? Cells in our bone marrow, thymus, the spleen, and blood.

The Cause Antigen-anything that causes an immune response.
Ex. Foreign material, or our own body. Pathogen-any disease causing micro-organism. Ex. Bacteria, virus, etc.

Immunity Innate Immunity-present since birth.
Ex. Phagocytes and Macrophages Adaptive Immunity-protection that arises from an immune response. Ex. antibodies

Problems Arise Tolerance-when the body doesn’t attack something.
Ex. Your own cells, transplants Autoimmunity-When your body attacks itself. Ex. Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus

Vaccines Using weakened or dead cells bacterium the body is able to create antibodies to fight off the disease without the chance of losing the battle and getting the disease. Ex. Mumps ,000 cases in 1996 only 600 cases.
