1 Primary 3/2 Newsletter Session 2018/2019
Welcome to Primary 3/2. Our teacher is Mrs Calvert. We hope that this will be an enjoyable and successful year for all of our children. The children are settling in well to their new programmes of work and routines. Please encourage your child by asking what they have learned in school each day. In Literacy and English, we will continue with our Fast Phonics First Programme, Storyworlds and other texts using the coaching approach. Please see the letter detailing the coaching approach and how you can help your child at home. Spelling homework will follow soon and written maths homework will begin later in the session. It would be helpful if all spelling jotters were covered. In maths, P2 children will continue with active learning and will be working with numbers 1-20, using these numbers to add and subtract. Other areas covered include shape, measure, data handling, time and money. In maths, the emphasis will be on addition and subtraction, mentally for numbers 0-20 and up to 100 in written format. Later in the year we will focus on multiplication and division by 2, 3, 4, 5 & 10. Learning At Home Reading homework will be detailed in the Reading letter. Spelling homework will be sent home once a week and will be tested weekly in school, usually on a Friday. Written maths homework will start in week 3 or 4 for P2s and in week 2 or 3 for P3s. Please sign any homework or test jotters. Some weeks there may be additional homework to encourage learning at home. We will all be given a Home Jotter which will be used to communicate between school and home. There is also additional information on reading in this too. If you have any notes regarding absences, questions or achievements to share, please write them in this jotter. Mrs Calvert Our PE days are Wednesday and Tuesday. We would like you to encourage your child to be prepared with their PE kit – shorts, t-shirt and gym shoes kept in a named bag at school. For safety reasons and to follow the authority’s regulations please remove all jewellery on gym days before coming to school. To enable us to make the most of our school grounds please send your child to school with a jacket and shoes that will withstand showers. Please clearly mark all belongings with names. Much valuable time is lost when we cannot find belongings or there is a dispute with another child over ownership of items which are identical. We are confident that your child will enjoy this very busy Primary 3/2 year. Please do not hesitate to contact us, through the school office, with any worries, problems or relevant information which you feel may impact on your child’s learning or attitude. It would be appreciated if the children could bring at least 2 sharp pencils, a rubber, a sharpener and a ruler to school every day. It would also be helpful if they could have their own packet of coloured pencils, felt tipped pens and a glue stick. Please check your child’s homework bag every day for letters. If any mums or dads (or grans, grandpas or friends) have a special interest or knowledge about any area of our school work we would be delighted to hear from you. In the past we have had visits from a helicopter and its crew, a local doctor, the police and a librarian. Could you tell us about your special interest or job? From, Mrs Calvert
