1
Erosion - The process of moving sediment from one place to another Caused by wind, water, or ice (sediment moves away)
2
Deposition - The process of dropping, or depositing, sediment in a new location (sediment piles up or gets added)
3
Moraine - Formed from glacial debris (what glaciers picked up as they moved) Made of rocks and soil
6
Glacial Valley - Formed by the movement of glaciers Shaped like the letter “u”
9
Canyon - Deep, narrow valley located between rocky cliffs Has steep sides The canyon carved by a river has the shape of the letter “V”
12
River Valley - Caused by river erosion River carries sediment that wears away the rock V-shaped
15
Sand Dune - Mound or hill made of sand Found in deserts, near bodies of water, or at the foot of a mountain Forms from wind causing sand to pile up
18
Sandbar - Ocean currents pick up sediments and carry the sediments a short distance. Sediments are deposited. Deposits rise gradually, forming a bar
21
Delta - Usually located where a river runs into a large body of water (such as an ocean). Fan-shaped like the letter D. In a river, water moves and causes the sediments it was carrying to be deposited. Sediments build up, forming a delta.
24
Natural Bridge/Natural Arch - Geological formation where a rock arch forms with an opening underneath. May be formed by wind or water.
27
Stalagmites/Stalactites - Formed from minerals depositing on cave floors (stalagmites) or cave ceilings (stalactites).
