Giving God, please forgive us – you offer us bread from heaven, the food that satisfies our hearts and souls, and yet we chase after that which does not satisfy:

18 money, comfort, “likes” on Instagram and Facebook
money, comfort, “likes” on Instagram and Facebook. You invite us into this house of worship to meet your Son in all his beauty, yet we come looking to “eat our fill” like the people of old.

19 You ask us to believe in you and your Son, yet we still trust in ourselves and our “stuff”. Please accept our humble but heartfelt confessions this morning.

20 Help change our hearts into hearts like yours
Help change our hearts into hearts like yours. Help us look to you each time we are tempted. Forgive us, Holy One, and continue to strengthen us.

21 (silence is observed for reflection and prayer)

25 SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 78:23-29
PROCLAIMING THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 78:23-29

26 Yet he commanded the skies above, and opened the doors of heaven; he raised down on them manna to eat, and gave them the grain of heaven. Mortals ate of the bread of angels; he sent them food in abundance. He caused the east wind to blow in the heavens, and by his power he led

27 out the south wind; he rained flesh upon them like dust, winged birds like the sand of the seas; he let them fall within their camp, all around their dwellings. And they ate and were well filled, for he gave them what they craved.

28 SCRIPTURE READING: John 6:24-35

29 So when the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they themselves got into the boats and went to Capernaum looking for Jesus. When they found him on the other side of the lake, they said to him, ‘Rabbi, when did you come here?’ Jesus answered them,

30 ‘Very truly, I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For it is on him that God the Father has set his seal.’

31 Then they said to him, ‘What must we do to perform the works of God
Then they said to him, ‘What must we do to perform the works of God?’ Jesus answered them, ‘This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.’ So they said to him, ‘What sign are you going to give us then, so that we may see it and believe you?

32 What work are you performing
What work are you performing? Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, “He gave them bread from heaven to eat”.’ Then Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly, I tell you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the

33 true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.’ They said to him, ‘Sir, give us this bread always.’ Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’

59 Then he took a cup of wine, thanked God for it and said to his friends: “This is my blood given to you as a new agreement between humans and God. Drink it and remember me.”
