2 Learning objective: All students: Produce a hypothesis based on prior knowledge of osmosis and plan a reliable investigation that can be used to test the effects of osmosis.

3 Analysis Which concentration of sugar produced the biggest increase in mass? What terms can be used to describe the cells of the potato in the distilled water or the concentrated solutions? Describe the relationship between sugar concentration and the mass of the potato 4) Which solution appears to be isotonic? 5) If we continued to test more and more concentrated solutions what would you expect the graph to look like? Plants are able to deal with changing solute concentrations of water but why might animal cells have more of a problem and what problems could they face?
