Introduction The simple art of walking is a primordial activity of the human being and throughout the. time urban mobility has given priority to the vehicle in relation to the pedestrian, reducing more and more those who venture to use the sidewalks. When planning a city with accessibility guaranteed to all audiences we have follow well-defined rules so that we can reach people with special needs and reduced mobility such as children, the elderly and pregnant women. For this to occur, there is a need to study in the most appropriate way and, mainly, the reality and particularities of each municipality. Today they are falling into the oblivion of those who have the responsibility of mobility within urban planning and even use them. They do not always consider themselves as such, and do not realize that all are, and at any time of their lives may find themselves in reduced mobility and are prevented from enjoying their basic right, because they do not have collaborated in this difficult task of raising awareness of the need to build and conserve the sidewalks.

An appropriate sidewalk is one that guarantees the free path, without
obstacles and comfortable for everyone. The sidewalk leads us to work, residence and the well-maintained environment leads us at various points, definition of a roadway according to the CTB (The Brazilian Transit Code). standard of the sidewalks according to CTB: Accessibility- ensure the complete mobility of users. Adequate width- must meet the minimum dimensions in the free range. Fluidity-Pedestrians must be able to walk at a constant speed. Continuity- smooth and non-slip floor, even when wet, almost horizontal, with transverse slope for drainage of rainwater of no more than 3%. There must be no obstacles within the free space occupied by pedestrians. Safety- do not give pedestrians any danger of falling or tripping. Space of socialization- must offer spaces of encounter between people for the social interaction in the public area. Landscape design- providing pleasant climates that contribute to comfort.

Report: Fernando Rodrigues, 52, Ortigueira / PR. Fernando Rodrigues, 52 years old, had his life changed drastically, after a traffic accident, which caused muscle paralysis. Before, he walked quietly through the streets without realizing the quality of the sidewalks. Currently, he only leaves the house when necessary, because his wheelchair can not overcome the obstacles that he finds on the way. In addition to the irregularities of the streets and lack of ramps, Fernando reports that in some places there are energy poles, benches in the middle of the sidewalks and badly fixed signs that make it difficult to get around.

In search of improvements for our city and for the population, aiming with emphasis to the wheelchair users. It can be seen then that the qualities of the sidewalks of our city are extremely precarious. It is then concluded that the difficulties faced by our residents and wheelchair users, as well as their direct and indirect assistance with this project, are of great importance to the improvement and awareness of the population of these important means.
