3. Math Homework began this week
Your child will receive a math worksheet every Monday. It will be due on Friday.

4. Math Time Use an analog clock or watch. Review how to count by 5s.
Practice telling time to 5 minute intervals.
Introduce quarter past, half past and quarter to.
Ask your child at different times throughout the day to tell you what time it is.

5. Counting Coins
Identify the types of coins and their values. (pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters)
Count like coins in order to count by 5s, 10s and 25s
Count a mix of different coins. Count the coins in order from highest value to lowest value.
Put coins out on table for your child to count.
When paying for something with cash, have your child count the change you receive.

8. Literacy Literacy Homework will begin 2nd quarter.
Currently we are in the middle of TRC and Dibels assessments. Information about your child’s reading level will be discussed at 1st quarter conferences.

9. Nightly Reading
Your child should be reading minutes, 5 nights a week in their appropriate reading range.
Nightly reading should be recorded in their agenda.
Students have access to reading material from the library, the Second grade library, RazKids, and Edgenuity.
Log in information has been taped in your child’s agenda

10. Literacy Suggestions
The best way to help your child improve their reading is to have them read.
The books should be in their Just Right Reading Range.
Scholastic Book Wizard app allows you to scan books to identify the reading level.
Talk to them about their reading. Use the question stems as a guide to create questions about what they have read.
