1 “Jesus’ Humanity…?!” (part 2)
Hebrews 2:10-18

2 There is no question that Jesus suffered greatly
There is no question that Jesus suffered greatly. It is an historical fact that Jesus died a vicious and humiliating death. Could there be then some validity to this line of reasoning? …

3 Rushville Memorial Hospital Knowles Shaw (“Bringing In the Sheaves”)

4 Purpose: to better understand the Son’s superiority to angels is not contradicted by His suffering

A. His Sufferings in the Flesh Were “Fitting” B. His Sufferings Make Him “of One”

11 Hebrews 12:14 “Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord.”

12 II NECESSARY TO DESTROY THE DEVIL (VV 14-16)
A. Jesus’ Death Gave Him the Victory

13 Through His own death AND resurrection, Jesus was able to destroy or render powerless the devil, Satan who had the power of death…

14 1 Peter 5:8-9 “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, know that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.”

15 Revelation 1:17-18 “…Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last, and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades.”

16 Revelation 20:10-12 “And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. And I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away… And I saw the dead, the great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books…”

17 II NECESSARY TO DESTROY THE DEVIL (VV 14-16)
A. Jesus’ Death Gave Him the Victory B. Jesus’ Death Delivered Us From Fear of Death

18 The fear of death is a fear that keeps most in bondage throughout their lives. Do you fear death? …

19 Romans 8:38-39 “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angles, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

20 III NECESSARY TO BE A SYMPATHETIC HIGH PRIEST(VV 10-13)
A. Jesus is a Merciful High Priest B. Jesus is a Faithful High Priest C. Jesus is Able to Help the Tempted

21 Hebrews 4:15 “For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.”

22 Hebrews 5:2 “He can deal gently with the ignorant and misguided, since He Himself also is beset with weakness.”

23 Hebrews 4:16 “Let us therefore draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help in time of need.”

24 We are a class-conscious people
We are a class-conscious people. White collar workers… are seen frequently in tennis/golf clubs rather than in bowling alleys and pool halls…

25 Summary and Conclusion:
In light of these truths… Christ is so truly divine that His equality with the Father and Holy Spirit are His by sovereign right. He did not have to strive for this as man pursues status and prestige. The glory of God was and is His by virtue of Who He is… All of this makes His coming that much more necessary and significant. What angel has accomplished what Jesus has accomplished? What prophet has fulfilled what Christ the Lord has fulfilled? What man has suffered more than what Jesus has suffered? …
