4. Pure Substance
A substance is matter with a specific and definite composition and a specific set of properties. This means it is always made up of the same combination of atoms Can be an element or compound.

5. Mixture
Two or more substances that have been joined together but not chemically combined
Mixtures are NOT considered pure substances
Each substance in the mixture keeps its own properties
Can be separated by simple, physical means
Ex: salad, lemonade, brass

6. Homework Identify an item around your house that is matter.
Complete a CER that addresses the following:
