18 International Student Internship –
Appendix A International Student Internship – Work Permit Process Work permits for international students can be tricky. The following offers clarification of the steps and attempts to simplify what can sometimes be a long and complicated process. International students are required to submit a work permit to the registrar’s office (Yan Chan) in order to be registered into the Internship course. Students need to apply for the permit themselves through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Information about work permit can be obtained from the IRCC website at . The internship registration process for international students is as follows:

19 1) They apply for their internship via the normal process.
2) Once they have secured their internship (i.e. submit application, complete an interview and are accepted) then, 3) Then they need to submit, to the registrar’s office (Yan Chan,) the Non- Classroom Registration Form ( Course.pdf) and a Letter Request Form (website: ( ) 4) Once Yan Chan receives these, she will prepare a school letter for students to use to apply for the work permit. Please note: Your approval for the internship is important since the start date and the completion date (which is 1 year from the start date) are required to be included in the letter.

20 When they submit the form to the Registrar’s Office, they must complete a letter request form (also available at and request a Work Permit Letter. The reason that the registrar’s office needs to see the signed non-classroom form is because they must verify that a student is completing the internship and its duration. Students are to submit both forms at the same time. Registrar’s office completes the Work Permit Request letter and the students apply for the work permit (the non-classroom course form is on hold when this happens) When the permit arrives, the students submit a copy of the permit to the registrar’s office, at which time, the non-classroom course form is processed. Students are then able to begin their internship.

21 Note: While International students are required to obtain work permit for their internship, they do not need to apply for work permit if they want to work (for a paid job) on- or off-campus as long as they are in full-time study. They may also obtain detailed information from for on-campus work and for off-campus work. Source: Registration Officer – Academic Support, Tyndale University College & Seminary. You may contact Yan Chan for additional information.
