The Maid of Norway was a girl, so would not be able to lead an army.

Many young children died before their fifth birthday, so the Maid might die young.

7. The fifth reason is…
There were powerful families who might try to seize power, like the Comyns and Bruces.

8. The sixth reason is…
Once the Maid died, there were 3 main claimants to the throne, who all said they were the rightful king.
