2 Contents System descriptions Input/output System Process
Performance testing

3 System Descriptions Intraocular lenses (IOLs) are medical devices that are implanted inside the eye to replace the eye's natural lens when it is removed during cataract surgery IOLs also are used for a type of vision correction surgery called refractive lens exchange The best type of the IOLs is depend on the patient's need

4 System Block Diagram reciprocal of the focal length (in metres) of a given lens diophtre Lens refracts light onto the retina Light Input process Onput

5 IOLs Material and Design
Most of the IOLs is made up of silicone or acrylic (PMMA) Coated with a special material (UV light-blocking chromophores) for eyes protection from ultraviolet light Main objectives : low degree of postoperative inflammation, reduce posterior capsule opacification (PCO) problem, easy to handle Production process should be simple to make affordable

8 INPUT AND OUTPUT Clear visions Cloudy visions (cataracts)
IOL Implants (Cataracts Surgery) complications

9 INPUT Patients with cataracts (cloudy lens) Refractive lens exchange Cloudy/blurry visions PROCESS Cataracts surgery ( IOL Implanted) OUTPUT New lens implanted (artificial) Clear visions restored ; might be complications occur Visions are depends on type of lens implanted

10 Monofocal lens : one focusing distance; near, far, intermediate

11 Multifocal lens : can focus to more than one distance (near, far)

12 Toric lens : treat cataracts, reduce astigmatism

13 Accommodative lens : can move and focus on various distance

14 Complications : Posterior capsule opacity (PCO) Intraocular lens dislocation Eye inflammations Light sensitivity Macular edema (swelling on central of retina) Ocular hypertension ( elevated eye pressure)
