MMSR Project background
The existing Melbourne Main Sewer (MMS) serves CBD, Docklands and surrounding areas Increasing population growth combined with the age of MMS has affected ability to perform adequately Need to replace or refurbish the MMS identified under asset management processes Essential service to enable compliance with government policy, legislation & other obligations Project on Water Plan and Corporate Plan Project team established: Melbourne Water, Connell Wager (project manager), GHD (designer) and John Holland (constructor) Melbourne Main Sewer Replacement 3

Broad scope of work New 2.3km long gravity main sewer from CBD to Hobsons Bay Main Sewer to replace section of existing Melbourne Main Sewer: New main sewer - 1.8m dia Branch & reticulation connection works - for City West Water and South East Water Miscellaneous works (e.g. billing meter, penstock) De-commissioning of Melbourne Main Sewer & North Wharf Pumping Station Associated temporary works Melbourne Main Sewer Replacement 5

Project status Announced by State Government in June 2007
