4 The Summary of this Prose
LME The Summary of this Prose A couple of years ago, Bill witnessed great courage. At a high school assembly, he had spoken about picking on people, and they have ability to stand up for people instead of putting them down. They had a time to talk about their thinking. Some students spoke of people who had helped them.    A senior girl said to all students. "Let's stop picking on that boy. He is different from us, but his inside is no different from ours. He needs our acceptance, compassion and love."    Bill thought that the boy must feel shame, but the boy was smiling from ear to ear. The boy thanked her for the courage in action to talk about himself.

TPI Grammar1 1. Let’s stop picking on that boy. p.254,Line15 ① stop + gerund ( = cease ) means to finish an action in progress. * Let’s stop picking on that boy. → We are picking on him, but we won’t do that anymore. ② stop + to-infinitive ( = halt ) means to interrupt an activity in order to do something else. ( to express a purpose ) * Let’s stop to pick on that boy. → We are doing something else now, but we will stop in order to pick on him.

9 Grammar2 2. I saw a boy smiling from ear to ear.
p.255,Line6 ① see somebody do [infinitive] - The infinitive implies that the action is complete. * I saw him do something. → This sentence means that I saw the whole action. ② see somebody doing [present participle] - The action in the present participle may be either complete or incomplete. * I saw him doing something. → This sentence could mean that I watched the whole action or that I saw only part of it.

10 IGT My Opinion    After reading this story, I was so surprised at her courage for the boy because it is easy to became indifferent about other people's problem.  I heard that the courage is not the absence of fear but the capacity for action despite our fears. We all need courage in order to take some action to fight injustice or to try unskilled work. I sometimes gave up to do that because I couldn't get enough courage. After that time, I was so regretful that I couldn't do my best.    Her courage might change the boy’s life. If you want to change your life, you will overcome your fear. The courage can save your life.
