8 Linkage of FBB output 3 to Land Tenure Issues
Increasing rate of ‘land grabs’ constructions of hotels and resorts other industrial and residential facilities. Large areas earmarked for Major Oil/Gas works A number of factors affecting availability, access and Security of land tenure for fishing landing, processing and marketing. One major factor is the lack of boundary demarcation and secure documentation of communal lands dedicated for fishing land sites in coastal communities A major land use practices contributing to this is the increasing rate of ‘land grabs’ and constructions of hotels and resorts and other industrial and residential facilities along the beaches/shoreline of Ghana. Study shows that some “traditional authorities/chiefs have already sold/leased and still selling/leasing large tracts of land to both foreign and local individuals/companies for various uses yet to be seen. Also, various places have been earmarked for major oil/gas works including refinery factories” there is growing number of economic, social, political and environmental factors that affects the availability, access and security of tenure of Lands for fishing landing, processing and marketing activities is most coastal area. One key factor is the lack of boundary demarcation and secure documentation of communal lands dedicated for fishing land sites in most coastal communities
