Release: The contributor grants a free, irrevocable license to the IEEE to incorporate material contained in this contribution, and any modifications thereof, in the creation of an IEEE Standards publication; to copyright in the IEEE’s name any IEEE Standards publication even though it may include portions of this contribution; and at the IEEE’s sole discretion to permit others to reproduce in whole or in part the resulting IEEE Standards publication. The contributor also acknowledges and accepts that this contribution may be made public by IEEE Patent Policy and Procedures: The contributor is familiar with the IEEE 802 Patent Policy and Procedures including the statement "IEEE standards may include the known use of patent(s), including patent applications, provided the IEEE receives assurance from the patent holder or applicant with respect to patents essential for compliance with both mandatory and optional portions of the standard." Early disclosure to the Working Group of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair Carl R. Stevenson as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE Working Group. 2 July 2007 Abstract The presentation describes the overall system architecture and interfaces between Spectrum Manager, MAC, Spectrum Sensing Function, Incumbent Database, Regulation based on IEEE P working draft. It is updated based on the conference call of June 25, 2007. In slide 3 : Incumbent database and Regulation and operation are now connected to BS via upper layer In slide 3 : Bring Geo-location into the BS entity asハWinston requested. Add slide 7 : MAC-SM interface (contribution by Dave Cavalcanti) Added slide 8 : Add a slide to define when sensing occurred. Kyutae Lim, GEDC, Georgia Tech

6 (Candidate) Functions of SM
July 2007 (Candidate) Functions of SM SM in BS Management functionalities in CPE Channel Set Information - Maintain/Updated Channel sets based on information collected from its sensing function, its associated CPEs, Incumbent database and Incumbent database. -Inform CPEs of changes in Channel sets Maintain a local copy of channel set info Update channel set information as directed by the BS and as a result of in-band/out-of-band sensing Control Spectrum sensing related message - Send commands to its SSF and to CPEs’ SSFs (Sensing Request Command) Receive sensing reports from the MAC (local reports and reports from CPEs) Control the scheduling of the quiet periods -Request SSF in the CPE to sense out-of-band channels, when not explicitly requested by the BS. Channel Management - Channel management commands - Controls the selection of operating and backup channels based on information collected from its sensing function, from its associated CPEs, and from Incumbent databases.
