2. The Freshman Transition
Many students find themselves struggling in English 1 when they haven’t struggled in English before
How to succeed in this environment:
Complete all homework
Come in outside of class time to ask questions & get clarification
To do that, complete homework on the night it’s assigned
Understand that an A is achievable in this class, but will require hard work.

3. Parent Portal
Allows you/your student to see real-time grades in each class; grades for each assignment
Please check this prior to making inquiries about grades
Set up your student’s account at parents.luhsd.net
Your student will need to get their Verification Code from their SLC in order to set up their account.

4. Notable Policies No late work is accepted
Late work is turned in after I paperclip the stack
Absent work is accepted, but it’s the responsibility of your student to find out what they missed and how to make it up.
Tests that were given on a day your student was absent must be made up within one calendar week of the original date; then scores will convert to 0.
Textbooks must be brought to class every day unless I say otherwise. Books may not be left in the classroom.

5. Generic No-Homework Email
Hello,
This is to let you know that your student came to class without his/her homework complete today. Per my late work policy, I do not accept late assignments, so your student will receive a 0 on this assignment. Please talk to your student about this, and make sure that s/he doesn’t continue coming to class without homework done, so that s/he can be as successful as possible in this class.

They need to be given responsibility
Let them take the consequences for their actions
If they are struggling or are having any issues relating to the class, send them to me to discuss it

They still need parents
Check in with them about homework
Check my teacher webpage for information about assignments & due dates
If they have made a mistake, do not let them blame anyone other than themselves
We all need to be on the same page
