Khmer Rouge aka “Red Khmers”
Name given to followers of the Communist Party of Kampuchea in Cambodia Formed in 1968 as an offshoot of the Vietnam People's Army from North Vietnam during Vietnam War Allied with North Vietnam & the Viet Cong

Pol Pot 1925 – 1998 One of the leaders of the Khmer Rouge
Became Communist dictator of Cambodia in 1975 Made urban dwellers move to the countryside to work in collective farms and on forced labor projects

Cambodian Genocide 25% of Cambodian population died in the 4 years under Pol Pot The combined effects of executions, strenuous working conditions, malnutrition and poor medical care caused the deaths In all, an estimated 1 to 3 million people (out of a population of slightly over 8 million) perished as a result of the policies of his four-year premiership
