Wilson’s and Sullivan’s Scoop August 22 - 26
What I’m Learning: This week our mentor text is the poem “Seal” and “Cherries and Cherry Pits”. In Reading, we are visualizing, rereading to gain more details, making text-to-self connections, and inferencing. In grammar, we are exploring nouns and verbs. In writing, we are building our writing community. In math, we will begin rounding to the 10’s and the 100’s. Vocabulary words and definitions: swerve – to change directions quickly, usually to avoid something. flick – move, or make something move, with a qicck, sudden motion. speedy - fast. utter – say something or make some sort of sound. whoop – shout from excitement. plop – sit down heavily or put something down heavily. Date: ______ Teacher News: T-shirt money is due by this Friday, Aug. 26th. Parents, We have snack at 10:00. Please make sure your child has a snack or purchases one. All snacks are 50 cents each. Sullivan’s homeroom has P.E. on Thursday Wilson’s homeroom has P.E. on Wednesday. Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes on P.E. days. Homework: Reading: (Due on Friday) Assignment 1: Reading Log Assignment 2: none Assignment 3: none Math: (Math homework is due daily.) Monday- Rounding to the Tens, p. 2 Tuesday- Rounding, p. 2 Wednesday-Round to the Tens, p. 6 Thursday- Rounding Robots, p. 8 Tests this week: Reading and Math: Monday – Tuesday – Wednesday – Thursday – Friday – Grammar Test

What’s Due: Assignments 1, 2, & 3
“I CAN” Common Core State Standards ELA Standards (Reading, Writing, Language, Speaking & Listening) I can reread a story for information I can compare and contrast two stories I can make a text to self connection Math Standards I can round to the tens and to the hundreds.
