Ms. Taylor 2nd Grade Ms. Taylor’s Sailors Week of March 26, 2018 A Peek at Our Week WEEKLY HOMEWORK Reading: Authors Purpose We will learn how to identify the main purpose of a text, including what the author wants to answer, explain, or describe. Writing Choose a writing prompt from the March writing calendar Spend time editing/ revising once you have finished your piece Math: Shapes We will learn how to identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes. We will also recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as the given number of angles or given number of equal faces. Lastly, we will learn how to partition circles and rectangles into two, three, and four equal shares. Math IXL Review the shapes study guide and practice memorizing the shape attributes for 3D shapes Writing: Personal Narratives We will review how to write a narrative in which they recount a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events, including details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, using temporal words, and providing a sense of closure. Spelling Choose an activity from the March Speller’s Choice activity sheet Reading Read aloud for 20 minutes and practice determining the authors purpose of the book – answer, explain, or describe? Raz Kids Health: Accident Prevention We will compare and contrast accident prevention strategies to use in activities/ sports and identify unsafe places to play in home, school, and the neighborhood. S.S./ Science Have a discussion about safety rules in your house and neighborhood. Class Blog: Spelling & Word Study Spelling/ Reading Rule Language Skill Mark Your Calendar Prefixes We will learn the following prefixes and how they can change the meaning of a base word. un-, re-, dis-, pre-, in- Context Clues We will learn how to use context clues when reading to discover the meaning of an unknown word.
