The process in which plants use sunlight to convert carbon dioxide and water into oxygen and glucose (sugar).

3. More Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis changes light energy into chemical energy.
Plants use the sugars to build plant tissue. (leaves, stems, bark, etc.)

4. Respiration
C6H12O6 + 6O CO2 + 6H2O + released energy
The process in which animals use oxygen and glucose to release energy and release water and carbon dioxide.
Respiration changes stored chemical energy into mechanical energy.

6. Producers Producers are organisms that make their own food.
Most producers use photosynthesis.

7. Consumers
Organisms that obtain energy by feeding on other organisms are consumers.
Consumers are categorized by what they eat.
Herbivores
Carnivores
Omnivores

8. Herbivores
Consumers that eat plants are herbivores.

9. Carnivores
Consumers that eat only other animals is a carnivore.

10. Scavenger Some carnivores are scavengers.
A scavenger is a carnivore that feeds on the bodies of dead organisms.

11. Omnivore
Consumers that eat both plants and animals are called omnivores.

12. Decomposers
Organisms that break down wastes and dead organisms and return the raw materials to the environment are called decomposers.

13. Predator
An organism that kills other organisms for food.

14. Prey
An animal that is killed by predators

16. Producer- Consumer
A relationship between a producer and a consumer

17. Symbiosis
Symbiosis is a close relationship between species that benefits at least one of the species.
There are two types we will look at
Mutualism
Parasitism

18. Mutualism
A relationship between two species in which both species benefit.

19. Parasitism
A relationship in which one organism lives on or inside another and harms it.

20. Energy Pyramids
An energy pyramid’s shape shows how the amount of useful energy that enters each level decreases as it is used by the organisms in that level.

21. Food Chains
A food chain is a series of events in which one organism eats another and obtains energy.

22. Food Web
A food web is a pattern of overlapping food chains that show the direction of energy flow and relationships of organisms
